A vibrant celebration of clarinet music took place on Saturday, March 29, as the John M. Long School of Music at Troy University hosted its 18th annual Clarinet Day. This event brought together fifty participants from various states, including Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, comprising both university students and high schoolers passionate about the instrument. The day was filled with workshops, recitals, and clinics led by renowned artists, offering invaluable insights and inspiration to all attendees.

The program featured a diverse array of activities designed to enrich participants' understanding and appreciation of the clarinet. World-class guest artists such as Wojtek Komsta, Anna Hashimoto, Gregory Agid, Joshua Mietz, and Colby Spengler provided hands-on sessions that included clarinet repair techniques, solo performances, and ensemble rehearsals. Dr. Timothy Phillips, Professor of Clarinet and the event's organizer, expressed his enthusiasm for the day's success, noting how it reinvigorated his perspective on teaching and playing the clarinet.

Anna Hashimoto's masterclass stood out as particularly impactful, blending practical advice with artistic inspiration to elevate student performances. Meanwhile, Gregory Agid's session offered unique insights into his career in New Orleans, sharing experiences like touring with Michael Bublé and imparting wisdom on effective practice strategies. Attendees also enjoyed exceptional performances, including a recital by Anna Hashimoto accompanied by faculty pianist Dr. Benjamin Crook, and a jazz concert featuring Gregory Agid alongside Alabama pianist Earnest Echols.

As the day concluded, parents and guests were treated to a grand finale concert that showcased the talents developed throughout the event. Support for this occasion came from several sponsors, including prominent names in the music industry like Buffet Crampon, Vandoren, and D’Addario.
