The Coolest TV Show of 2024: Industry's Season 3 Finale
2024-12-17
The coolest thing I can mention at those TV discussion parties is: “I’ve been an Industry guy since the first episode.” Reflecting on that 2020 pilot, now in the shadow of season three’s massive finale, it seems a world away. Five baby-chick graduates vying for entry-level jobs, credits with “Directed by: Lena Dunham,” and most scenes in the office. Watching that episode now at parties, it feels like a different show. Season three had Harper rarely looking at a computer. But Industry’s evolution has been seamless. With HBO renewing for season four before Kit Harington’s season three incident, it’s bound to get more daring.
Fanbase and Succession Comparisons
This season, Industry has gained a vocal fanbase. They make edits and speculate about Harper’s next moves. It’s faced Succession comparisons, which were more apt in season two. Like Succession, it’s on HBO, paints ghoulish characters, shows people’s thirst for success, and has audacious dialogue. I can’t repeat my favorite lines, but search for the mouthwash comment in “White Mischief” to understand.Broad Strokes and Beneath the SurfaceLooking at Industry through headlines is easy – the Yas and Henry piss scene, etc. But what I love is beneath. How the writers paint themselves into corners and out in the next season. New characters stealing scenes immediately. The cinematography and literary references in every episode. Episode seven, a directorial debut, with glimpses through windows and overhearing in corridors. I don’t understand money macroscopically, but I love watching these little ghouls chase it.Excitement and CastThere are many great shows, but Industry is the most exciting now. It feels in the middle of something, with a racing heartbeat and ambition to become a TV great. With a phenomenal young cast like Harry Lawtey, Marisa Abela, and Myha’la, along with Ken Leung on top form, we’re witnessing something special. People are leaving, but I have to tell them how good Industry is!
