On October 21st, a group of five individuals, including a young couple and their neighbors, fell victim to toad meat poisoning after consuming a meal prepared with toad meat and eggs. The incident unfolded when A Nghia, a 19-year-old man, caught and brought home a toad, which his wife, Y Ri, then cooked along with wild greens for their dinner. Within 15 minutes of consuming the meal, all five individuals experienced a range of severe symptoms, including headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, and distress, prompting their immediate transfer to the Kon Tum Provincial General Hospital.Further investigation revealed that while A Nghia had previously consumed toad meat without incident, the inclusion of the toad eggs in the dish this time proved to be the critical factor that led to the poisoning. Two of the victims were found to have developed additional complications, including slow heart rate, and were subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit and Toxicology Department for specialized treatment. Fortunately, all five patients were able to recover and were eventually discharged from the hospital.

In a separate incident on October 1st, the Dak To District Medical Center in Kon Tum received a patient, A Hieng, a 17-year-old from the Tê Pen village in Văn Lem commune, who had also fallen victim to toad meat poisoning. A Hieng presented with symptoms such as headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, and agitation, and was subsequently transferred to the Kon Tum Provincial General Hospital for further treatment.Tragically, despite the medical team's best efforts, A Hieng succumbed to the effects of the toad toxin at 3 PM on October 3rd, succumbing to multi-organ failure, cardiac arrhythmia, and heart failure. According to the victim's mother, Y Sa, A Hieng had consumed a meal containing toad meat and eggs earlier that day, unaware of the deadly consequences that would follow.
