2024-11-16
During a November 7 screening of Hugh Grant's thriller "Heretic," one man's behavior at the movies sparked a significant online commotion. Reddit user u/ItsDomorOm noticed a bright light emanating from the other side of the theater. Initially believing it to be an overly bright exit light, he was shocked to discover the source - a man using his laptop.

Unraveling the Rudeness of Laptop Use in Movie Theaters

Section 1: The Incident Unfolds

The Redditor, hailing from New York, was assigned a seat in the back left corner. Just before the movie began, a group of six guys sat in front of him and kept chatting. Unwilling to confront them, he moved to the other corner, where he noticed the strange glow. It became clear that the light was coming from a person using their laptop. This was an unprecedented sight for him, as he had only ever seen people playing on their phones during movies, never a laptop.During the entire screening, the light from the laptop screen was visible, which was highly off-putting for other moviegoers. As if that wasn't bad enough, the person seemed to shift around in their seat frequently, causing the light to move around as well.

Section 2: After the Movie

When the movie ended and the credits rolled, u/ItsDomorOm turned around to see that the person was still engrossed in their laptop, even though the theater was almost empty. He couldn't help but take a picture, considering the behavior to be premeditated selfishness. It was an incredibly distracting and rude act.Although he didn't complain to the cinema staff as it was the last showing of the night, he shared the photo on Reddit. The post quickly went viral, receiving over 96,000 votes and 5,000 comments since being shared on November 8. He was amazed by the online response, never imagining it would gain millions of views in just a few days. The reaction has mostly been people making funny remarks and expressing their frustration with people's inability to behave properly in public. One comment read, "work life not balance," highlighting the lack of boundaries. Another user wrote, "I swear, ever since covid, movie theatre etiquette has taken a nosedive to rock bottom. Why would anyone think this is a good idea?" A third responded, "I don't understand why anyone would pay for a ticket and then do this." And one user said, "half the time you go to the movies, the experience is ruined by some ignorant, selfish aholes who think they're the center of the universe. People really don't know how to act."Do you have any similar viral videos or pictures to share? We want to see the best ones! Send them to life@newsweek.com and they could appear on our site.
