Emerging Music Festival Set to Enrich Summer Experience
2025-03-19

An exciting new music festival is set to grace the scenic backdrop of Tuttle Creek State Park this summer, drawing inspiration from the vibrant live music culture that Manhattan has long celebrated. Brandyn Steen, an alumnus of Kansas State University and executive producer of the event, envisions it as a recurring annual celebration. Alongside his collaborators, who also share ties to K-State, Steen aims to craft a memorable musical experience rooted in the spirit of community gatherings.

Building on the legacy of Country Stampede, which transitioned its base to Topeka due to flood-related concerns at its original location, Rock the Plains intends to offer a fresh yet familiar atmosphere for live performances. According to Steen, the intention isn't to replace past events but rather to provide a complementary platform where audiences can enjoy country sounds by the lake. This year's lineup features notable acts such as the Randy Rogers Band, Aaron Watson, Braxton Keith, and the Josh Abbott Band, representing the rich traditions of red dirt and Texas country music genres.

This inaugural edition will accommodate approximately 8,000 attendees, ensuring a focused and enjoyable experience for all participants. Tickets have already begun selling briskly since their launch last Friday, reflecting strong community support and enthusiasm. Collaborating closely with local entities like Tuttle Creek State Park, the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, and K-State ensures smooth execution. Scheduled for August 8-9, the festival promises not only to entertain but also foster connections through shared musical enjoyment, emphasizing the power of art to unite communities positively.
