Several prominent music and entertainment events have been placed on hold for the upcoming year as industry leaders seek innovative ways to enhance their offerings. The Country Music Television (CMT) Music Awards, alongside other notable ceremonies, will not occur in 2025. This decision comes from Paramount, the parent company of CMT, aiming to rethink and optimize these events for a more impactful future.
The announcement was communicated through an internal memo issued by Bruce Gillmer, who holds significant positions within Paramount, including President of Music, Media Networks, and Chief Content Officer for Paramount+. In his message, Gillmer highlighted that while these events are temporarily paused, they remain integral to the company’s long-term strategy. However, specific details about potential return dates were not provided.
Among the events affected are the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs), MTV Millennial Awards (MIAWs), Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and the CMT Music Awards. These changes are intended to allow the organization time to explore new formats and approaches that could better serve audiences and artists alike. Notably, the MTV Video Music Awards and the U.S. version of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will continue as scheduled.
Since its inception in 2002, the CMT Music Awards have become a beloved tradition, typically held in the spring with fan voting determining the winners. In recent years, the event has taken place in April, with fans casting votes to select the best videos and performances. Last year, Jelly Roll’s “Need A Favor” won the coveted Video of the Year award, showcasing the strong connection between country music and its dedicated fan base.
This strategic pause provides an opportunity for reflection and innovation, ensuring that when these events return, they will be even more engaging and meaningful. The industry looks forward to seeing how this reimagining process will shape the future of these celebrated awards shows.
