Sacred Melodies Unite Community in Musical Tribute
2025-02-23

On Sunday, March 2, the Hot Springs Music Club will host a special afternoon dedicated to sacred music. The event, titled “A Celebration of Sacred Music,” aims to showcase diverse musical expressions that resonate within the community and culture. Taking place at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, this free program promises an enriching experience for all attendees.

The concert features a wide array of performances from various artists and groups. Tenor Jeduthan Kim, an assistant professor at Ouachita Baptist University, will perform pieces inspired by biblical passages, sung in Korean. Accompanied by Mary Chung, these selections offer a unique blend of scripture and melody. Additionally, the Village Chorale, directed by Tom Bolton, will present three religious songs, including a complex a cappella rendition of the final judgment described in Revelation. The First United Methodist Church Ukestra, led by Tish Kennedy Davenport, will also contribute with their ukulele ensemble, featuring a sacred harp medley on the flute. Other performers include the Ladies’ Ensemble from First Baptist Church, soprano Jolene Williams, and pianist Magnolia Powell.

The Hot Springs Music Club, established in 1951 and affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs, has been fostering musical talent for decades. Through its annual programs, the club not only celebrates music but also supports future musicians. Attendees can contribute to the club’s scholarship fund, which has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships since 2000, helping students from Garland County pursue music-related degrees. This event underscores the importance of community support and the transformative power of music, encouraging the next generation to embrace and carry forward this rich cultural heritage.
