In early February, the junior high band and choir students from Oregon demonstrated their exceptional musical talents at this year’s Solo Ensemble contest held in Pecatonica. Over 70 enthusiastic participants showcased an impressive array of performances, ranging from solos to large group ensembles. The event was a resounding success, with outstanding feedback from both judges and audiences alike. The school district's music educator praised the students' achievements, highlighting several top-tier ratings and a perfect score earned by one particularly talented flutist. As the month of March approaches, these young musicians are gearing up for an exciting lineup of upcoming events that will further highlight their skills.
On February 8th, under the golden hues of late winter, the halls of Pecatonica were filled with melodies as more than 70 students from Oregon Junior High School took part in the annual Solo Ensemble contest. Throughout the day, these young artists presented 53 diverse performances, which included instrumental and vocal solos, duets, trios, quartets, and even larger ensemble pieces. One of the school’s music educators, Miles Beske, expressed immense pride in the students’ accomplishments, noting that the judges were equally impressed. Among the notable highlights was Lia Tran’s flawless flute solo, earning her a perfect score. The day concluded with 43 first-place accolades, nine second-place honors, and one third-place recognition, underscoring the remarkable talent within the school’s music program.

They will be performing in the Oregon High School Musical from March 13-16, participating in the Rt. 72 JH Music Festival on March 18, and culminating with the 30th Band Extravaganza Concert on March 20. Each event promises to be a celebration of the students' dedication and passion for music.
