Florida Mom Sheds 60 Lbs. with 'No Sugar Baker' Biz
2024-12-16
Jayne Jones, a 50-year-old lawyer for nonprofits, was once a weekend baking enthusiast, crafting sugary treats. But in 2019, on her 46th birthday, she received a shocking diagnosis - dangerously high blood pressure and blood sugar levels, indicating severe type 2 diabetes and being just inches away from a stroke. This life-altering event led her to completely transform her lifestyle.

Revamping the Diet and Losing Weight

Initially weighing 235 lbs., Jones focused on a low-sugar diet consisting of vegetables, lean proteins like turkey, chicken, and fish, and salads. She also started walking at least 40 minutes a day, whether in her pool or through her Sarasota neighborhood. Within three months, she had already lost about 30 lbs., and her blood sugar levels significantly improved. Her doctor was amazed, stating that she didn't even look like the same person. Her husband Chris Beehler was a great support, being mostly sugar-free around her. Together, their lifestyle became healthier than ever.

Overcoming the Challenge of Christmas

The first Christmas without sugary treats was tough for Jones. Although her physical health had improved, she missed her baking hobby. But one day at the grocery store, she bought a sweetener made from grape skins and started making chocolate chip cookies. Her parents' reaction was emotional - they were so happy to have her back to her old self with energy and a smile.

Creating Sugar-Free Recipes and a Business

Jones began experimenting with sugar substitutes like Swerve and created over 250 sugar-free recipes, which are now available on her blog. In January 2023, she was invited on QVC to sell her frozen cookie dough, which sold out three times. It is also available in more than 185 grocery stores in Texas and Louisiana, and she's working to expand nationwide. She hopes to make her treats available in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

Spreading Sugar-Free Knowledge

Starting the blog was an authentic way for Jones to share what she had learned. She emphasizes that genetics plays a big part in health and that one must find the right formula. She believes that anyone can go sugar-free and be healthy if they don't give up. Through her daily nutrition and exercise routine, she maintains her weight loss and continues to inspire others.Never miss a story - sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
