Uncover the Holiday Delights of Golden Bachelor Alums
Decorating the Christmas Tree
Kathy Swarts shares her love for decorating a little Christmas tree with about a thousand ornaments. She takes days to put it up and days to take it down. Making stockings for all her children and grandchildren is also a special part of her holiday routine. "I love seeing the tree all decorated and knowing that it holds so many memories," she says. "It's a time to gather around and enjoy the holiday spirit."The process of decorating the tree is not just about the final look but also the memories it creates. "Each ornament has a story," Swarts adds. "It's like a time capsule of our family's history."Food and Family
For Susan Noles, it's all about the food. As an Italian, holidays are a time for big feasts. "In my house, it's crazy and loud with everyone enjoying the delicious food," she says. Her scuttle soup or escarole soup, also known as Italian wedding soup, is a must-have during the holidays. "If I don't serve it, my son would be disappointed," she jokes. But it's not just about the main courses. Noles loves baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren. "It's a time to bond and create memories together," she says. Julian, her 14-year-old grandson, gets to put on all the sprinkles for the regatta cookies. "We do it every year and it's always a lot of fun."Grandparenting and Self-Care
Swarts believes that grandparenting is easier than parenting because there's no mess to clean up. "I love having my grandchildren get on the floor and play with them. It's a time to be carefree and have fun," she says. But she also emphasizes the importance of passing down traditions and stories. "These traditions are so important in carrying on family values," she adds.Noles shares a piece of advice for those entering their third stage of life. "Life is not over. You can still do whatever you want, whether it's making new friends, taking up a new hobby or traveling," she says. "Take care of yourself and enjoy every moment with your loved ones."Balancing grandparenting and newfound stardom is not easy, but Swarts and Noles make time for themselves. "As we get older, we need to be true to ourselves and love ourselves," Swarts says. "It's a simple rule that can bring a lot of happiness."
