Authorities in New York have reported a heartbreaking incident involving a high school ice hockey player. On Saturday, November 30th, a 17-year-old defenseman named Connor Kasin from Massapequa High School lost consciousness during a game at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center. People at the game immediately began performing CPR, and paramedics and police swiftly arrived on the scene. Kasin was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff sadly pronounced him dead.

Heartfelt Tributes and Condolences

A letter sent to Massapequa High School students and parents stated that Kasin "experienced a sudden medical event" that led to his loss of consciousness. The Sharks Elite Youth Hockey team, in a Facebook post on Sunday, December 1st, shared the news of his sudden passing and asked everyone to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers. Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent William Brennan wrote in a statement that Connor was a cherished member of the school community, known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile. His absence will be deeply felt by all.

Details of the Incident

Nassau County Police have not yet disclosed the cause of the teenager's death, and the nature of his medical emergency remains unknown. However, it is known that Kasin was playing in a charity match for his high school team in honor of Sabrina Navaetta, a 19-year-old graduate of nearby Syosset High School who died in a car crash in Delaware in 2023. The Long Island youth hockey organization PAL Ice Hockey also expressed their deep condolences in a Facebook statement, saying their hearts are heavy and their thoughts are with the Kasin family, his teammates, coaches, and classmates.

Massapequa High School has announced that it will be providing counseling and support at school on Sunday for students and families who were close to Connor, including his hockey teammates. This shows the school's commitment to helping those affected by this tragic event. The community is coming together to mourn the loss of Connor and offer support to those who knew him.
