IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa football team is all set to face off against the highly ranked No. 19 Missouri in the much-anticipated 2024 TransPerfect Music City Bowl on December 30th in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CT) at the renowned Nissan Stadium, and the game will be televised on ESPN. This matinee event is set to be the sole bowl game on that particular day.
Music City Bowl Ticket Information
The Iowa Athletics Ticket Office will commence accepting Music City Bowl ticket requests from all fans starting on Monday, December 9th. It will continue until the day before the game, which is December 29th. Fans are strongly advised to sign into their UI ticket account prior to Friday, December 13th. This is because ticket orders will begin to be filled based on priority from December 13th onwards. The Hawkeyes have an impressive track record in bowl games, making their 37th appearance overall and their second in the Music City Bowl. In 2022, they shut out Kentucky with a convincing 21-0 score. However, their 2020 Music City Bowl game against Missouri was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within Missouri's program. Interestingly, the Hawkeyes have won four out of their last six bowl games and have an overall record of 18-17-1 in bowl contests.Iowa vs. Missouri: A Battle of Rivals
The Hawkeyes have a mixed record against Missouri, standing at 6-7 all-time. Most of their meetings took place between 1892 and 1910, with the last contest resulting in a 27-24 Iowa victory in the 2010 Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona. Iowa has also faced other current Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponents 8-9 times in bowl games. This tied them for fifth place in the new 18-team conference. Under the leadership of Moon Family Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz, the Hawkeyes have achieved eight wins or more in each of the last nine full seasons.Senior Jay Higgins was honored as the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year, junior Kaleb Johnson received the Ameche-Dayne Big Ten Running Back of the Year award, and senior Kaden Wetjen was named the Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year. Johnson also made it to the finalist list for the Doak Walker Award. Iowa was the only Big Ten program with three separate players earning positional awards. Wetjen is the fourth Hawkeye to receive the top return specialist honor from the Big Ten in the last four years, while Higgins is the third Hawkeye to be recognized as the conference's top linebacker.A total of 20 players earned All-Big Ten recognition, including first-team honorees Higgins (linebacker), Johnson (running back), Wetjen (return specialist), Connor Colby (guard), and Logan Jones (center). Rhys Dakin (punter), Luke Elkin (long snapper), and Gennings Dunker (tackle) received second-team honors, while Sebastian Castro (defensive back), Jermari Harris (defensive back), and Drew Stevens were named third-team honorees.Under Coach Ferentz, Iowa has been bowl eligible for 23 times in the last 24 seasons and has a record of 10-10 in bowl games. Since 2001, only Ohio State and Wisconsin have won more bowl games as Big Ten members (including the FBS championship game) than Iowa.
