The percussionist joined Iron Maiden in 1982, replacing Clive Burr and becoming an integral part of the band. He played on all of their albums since 1983's 'Piece Of Mind'. However, in January 2023, he suffered a minor stroke which left him partially paralysed on his right side from the shoulder down. Despite this setback, he underwent 10 weeks of intensive therapy and was able to start rehearsals with the band for their 'The Future Past' tour.During an interview with Metal Hammer in December, he described the experience as "very, very difficult". He admitted that there were some songs he "can't play" in the way he had previously. But his dedication and love for the band shone through as he expressed his gratitude to his fans and the band.

The Search for a New Drummer

As Iron Maiden's 'The Future Past' world tour drew to a close, the band began the search for a new drummer. After careful consideration, they have revealed the newest addition to their line-up: Simon Dawson. Dawson plays in British Lion, the hard rock project of Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris. He first joined the band during the making of Harris' 2012 solo album 'British Lion' and played on three tracks. He also performed as a band member on their 2020 album 'The Burning'.Dawson will join Maiden for their 2025 'Run For Your Lives' tour, which begins in Budapest, Hungary on May 27. Fans are excited to see how he will fit into the band and contribute to their music.
