Jacqueline Sheader from the Penn State University Campus Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the campus police officially closed the case surrounding the November 2 incident. She stated that the individual in the circulating social media video footage has not been identified and no one has come forward with a related complaint about damage to personal property. The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Associated Press were the first to report the news.
The altercation took place outside Penn State's Beaver Stadium just before a highly anticipated college football game against Ohio State University. Kelce was at Beaver Stadium to make an appearance on ESPN's College GameDay, which was filmed outside. Video of the incident quickly went viral, showing a crowd following Kelce as he walked outside. In one clip, a fan asking for a fist bump was seen following Kelce and repeatedly yelling at him. The fan yelled, "Hey, Kelce. How does it feel your brother's a f—– dating Taylor Swift?" referring to Travis Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift. Kelce then turned around, grabbed the fan's phone, and smashed it on the ground. The initial user who posted the clip on X noted that the fan was "getting in Kelce's face for no reason" before yelling the slur, prompting Kelce's reaction.
Two days later on Monday Night Football, Jason Kelce addressed the incident, saying he was "not happy" with how he handled it. He admitted that within a heated moment, he chose to greet hate with hate and realized it wasn't a productive thing. The Kelce brothers also discussed the incident later in the week on their New Heights podcast. Kelce called the fan's slur "dehumanizing" and said it upset him. He admitted he "shouldn't have done that" and said in the heat of the moment, he thought of a response and ended up using harsh words. Travis told his older brother that the situation was about a "f—ing clown" coming up and talking about their family, and Kelce reacted to defend them. Travis emphasized that it's a situation to learn from and own, and Kelce's speaking about it shows his sincerity.
