2024-12-06
Jennifer Lopez, at the age of 55, continues to captivate with her remarkable achievements. On Thursday, Dec. 5, she was bestowed with the Maverick Award at the 2024 IndieWire Awards held at Citizen News in Los Angeles. This honor was for her outstanding sports biopic, Unstoppable, where she portrayed the role of July Robles, the mother of Anthony Robles, a champion wrestler born with one leg.

Her Glittering Appearance

For the occasion, the "Can't Get Enough" singer donned a silver glittery sheer gown with long sleeves and a high neck, truly shining like a star. Complementing the slinky dress were a pair of silver drop earrings, and her hair was styled in loose waves, adding to her overall glamorous look.

Acceptance Speech Highlights

During her speech, Lopez expressed deep gratitude for receiving the award. She mentioned that the word "maverick" holds a special place in her heart. Looking up its definition, she found it to represent an individualist, a non-conformist, a free spirit, an original, a trendsetter, an eccentric, an outsider, a rebel, a dissident, and a disrupter. She emphasized the importance of charting one's own course and being recognized for one's uniqueness. Lopez also thanked everyone who made the film possible, including director William Goldenberg and costars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle, and Michael Peña. She gave a special mention to Judy Robles and Anthony, expressing her gratitude for their openness and wisdom during filming.

Behind the Scenes Appreciation

Lopez's award comes after her ex, Ben Affleck, praised her performance in the movie. He stated that Jennifer is spectacular and that the film, Unstoppable, is a testament to the passion of talented artists. Affleck added that director Billy Goldenberg and the entire cast, including Lopez, Cheadle, Jerome, and Cannavale, were passionate about bringing the story to life.Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
