2024-12-04
Latto, a rising star in the rap and hip-hop realm, has found herself in a unique situation where her success hasn't shielded her from concerns about Eminem's opinion. In a December 4 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she opened up about a memorable encounter with the renowned 52-year-old rapper. This incident shed light on her emotions and experiences, revealing a side of her that fans may not have known.

Unraveling Latto's Connection with Eminem

Meeting Eminem on Rhythm + Flow

During her time as a judge on Rhythm + Flow alongside Ludacris and DJ Khaled, Latto had an unexpected run-in with Eminem. As Hudson asked about having him as a guest judge in season 2, Latto recalled her initial reaction. She described feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, not knowing how to interact with the rap legend. "I was like, 'Oh, I bombed that. He thinks I'm weird because I just was like, ahh. I didn't know what to say, so I was like, 'Gah, thank you!'" she shared. This moment showcased her genuine emotions and the impact Eminem had on her.

It was a significant experience for Latto, as her father had listened to Eminem so much growing up. The fact that Eminem was a fan of her music during his appearance on the series added another layer of complexity to their interaction. Latto couldn't help but question if he was being genuine or just being polite. "My daddy listened to Eminem so much growing up, that’s, like, probably his favorite rapper. So, it was just like, 'Oh, don't lie to me. For real?'" she expressed.

Later, when she asked for a picture with Eminem, his response further intrigued her. "He was like, 'Yeah.' He probably thinks I’m a little awkward," she added. This encounter left a lasting impression on Latto and added a new dimension to her career.

Providing Mentorship through Rhythm + Flow

Being one of the three permanent judges on Rhythm + Flow gave Latto an opportunity to give back and provide mentorship to aspiring young rap and hip-hop artists. She explained to Hudson that this position reminded her of her own beginnings and reignited a fire within her.

"The 2025 Grammy-nominated rapper who released her third album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, in August, found that being in this role allowed her to connect with young artists on a deeper level. It was a chance to share her experiences and guide them in their careers," she said.

Latto emphasized that despite her success as a judge and a rapper, she remains an artist at heart. "I be like, 'I’m a rapper. I make music. I’m not a reality TV star,'" she declared, highlighting her dedication to her craft.
