Multimillionaire Barbara Corcoran Chooses Coach for Generous Reason
2024-12-10
Barbara Corcoran, the renowned real estate maven and star of Shark Tank, has a seating preference on airplanes that might surprise her fans. At 75 years old, she often flies in the regular economy cabin despite having the means to afford first class. This decision stems from her belief that a coach ticket is only about 25% the cost of a first class ticket and that she can accumulate free miles which she generously shares with her family.

Airplane Seating Preference

During a December 10 appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, Corcoran was asked about the cost of a first class ticket. She humorously pointed out that a coach ticket is a fraction of the price. She values being able to give away these free miles and have her entire family enjoy vacations. It gives her a sense of satisfaction knowing that she can provide these opportunities. She explains, "I get the free miles and I can give them away. I have everybody in my family flying on my free miles. What's more important — that everybody gets free vacations, or that I'm comfortable in first class? I guess I could afford to do both, but I won't because I'll be in coach feeling really smug because I know I have three plane tickets that could take somebody somewhere. It accumulates, you know?"This choice shows her practical side and her willingness to share the benefits of her success with her loved ones.

Generous Home Sharing

Corcoran is not only generous with her miles but also with her multiple homes. When asked about the "scheduling system" for her different properties during the episode, she proudly states that there is not a single bed in any of her homes that is ever empty. She finds great satisfaction in knowing that people are enjoying her properties. Whether it's her ski chalet that can accommodate a large group, her beach house where guests have a blast, or her New York City home, every bed is filled. She says, "There's not a single bed in any of my homes that's ever empty. What is more satisfying than someone saying, 'Thank you, we had a blast.' Extended family, they're family, whatever. 'We had a blast.'"This shows her warm and generous nature, as she wants her homes to be a source of joy and togetherness for those around her.

Family and Home Use

She goes on to explain in more detail how each of her homes serves a purpose. Her ski chalet is big and can fit a lot of people, providing a fun winter getaway. The beach house is a place where guests can relax and enjoy the sun. And in New York City, her home is always filled with life. She emphasizes that even when she's not there herself, these homes are being used and bringing happiness to others. She concludes, "People have a blast in my ski chalet — it's big, it fits a lot of people. They go to my beach house, I don't mean to brag... They come to New York City. Where I live, never an empty bed and boy, is that satisfying. I mean what really happens is, the more money you have, the less you use your homes. That's the truth. You sleep there very few nights, and they go to waste. What a shame."This shows her understanding of the value of her homes and her desire to make them a part of everyone's lives.
