Unlock the Joy of Peacock Lane's Holiday Lights

History and Community Spirit

Ted Brockwood made the decision to move to Southeast Peacock Lane 21 years ago, with the intention of raising his family in a neighborhood filled with holiday cheer. Since then, he has become known for his remarkable "Charlie Brown House" display. Brockwood emphasizes that the joy of this tradition extends beyond the families who visit. It is a shared experience that brings the community together. "Once we started, we literally could not stop," he said. "It started with building Snoopy's house, then adding kids on the pond, and soon we had Franklin joining in too."The neighborhood's commitment to decorating year after year is a testament to their love for the holiday spirit. Brockwood wants to dispel the myth that there is a contract dictating homeowners to decorate. Instead, it is their genuine passion that keeps the lights shining.

The Magic of Free Hot Cocoa and Snowfall

On Sunday's kickoff, the air was filled with the aroma of free hot cocoa and the sight of snowfall as lights twinkled everywhere. People were drawn to this winter wonderland, and the energy was palpable. "People just love it," Brockwood said. "The squeals of delight from the kids as they run by the displays are infectious. It's impossible not to be part of this joy."This free event allows everyone to immerse themselves in the holiday spirit without any cost. It is a time when neighbors come together, families create memories, and the magic of Christmas truly comes alive.

Pedestrian-Only Nights and Christmas Drive-Through

Monday nights on Peacock Lane are exclusively for pedestrians, providing a more intimate experience. Visitors can stroll along the street, taking in the details of each display up close. And after Monday, the street remains open for people to drive through until Christmas, allowing those in cars to enjoy the lights as well. This diverse approach ensures that everyone can participate in the holiday fun, whether they prefer to walk or drive. It is a celebration that caters to all, making Peacock Lane a must-visit destination during the holiday season.Copyright 2024 KPTV-KPDX. All rights reserved.
