"Pop Culture Jeopardy! Contestant Gets Point Back with Paul Rudd Film Answer"
2024-12-04
In the new spinoff of Jeopardy!, Pop Culture Jeopardy!, a remarkable contestant named Rob quickly demonstrated their extensive knowledge of pop culture. In just the second episode, a tense moment arose when a team was given a point back. The show features three trios competing, and during a challenging round, a clue was presented: “Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, & Zooey Deschanel play the sister to Paul Rudd, the title character of this familial film.” Rob swiftly answered, “What is… My Idiot Brother.” However, host Colin Jost initially docked the group's points, stating the correct answer was “Our Idiot Brother.” But during the commercial break, Rob's teammate and freelance Entertainment Weekly journalist Jordan called for a correction. As it turned out, the original title at Sundance was “My Idiot Brother,” not “Our Idiot Brother.” This led to the team receiving a 1200-point increase, although they still didn't emerge as winners in the end.
Host's Surprise on Today Show
Colin Jost had hinted at such a situation during his December 3 appearance on the Today show with Savannah Guthrie. When Guthrie sprung a surprise round of trivia on him, he didn't perform as well as expected. The final question was about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, asking about the country where her last name originated. Jost joked, “How much did you plan to set me up on this?” and initially answered, “What is… Denmark.” But Guthrie corrected him, saying it was “What is… Sweden.” Jost was shocked and exclaimed, “She knew [you] would get it wrong. That is a crazy — I can't say the word — loophole. That’s not fair. That’s a technicality.” He added that on Pop Culture Jeopardy!, there are judges who can overturn absurd decisions like this.
