The Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami is set to undergo a leadership change as its current dean, Shelton G. "Shelly" Berg, plans to step down in 2026. A celebrated figure in the music world, Berg has been instrumental in shaping the institution since his appointment in 2007. Known for his extensive contributions as a six-time Grammy nominee, pianist, composer, and bandleader, he intends to refocus on his artistic pursuits. During the transition year, Berg will prioritize fundraising efforts to ensure the school's long-term stability, while Professor Serona Elton assumes the role of vice dean.

Shelly Berg’s tenure at the Frost School has been marked by transformative innovations that have redefined music education. One of his most notable achievements was the introduction of the “Frost Method,” an educational framework that integrates creative skills with practical and entrepreneurial expertise in areas such as marketing, production, technology, and teaching methodologies.
