Setting the Stage for Christmas Cheer

On Friday, November 30th, the actor's wife, Alejandra Silva, took to Instagram to share a delightful snapshot from their Spanish home. As their little ones got involved in the festive preparations, one child was seen adorning the large, illuminated Christmas tree with ornaments, while another was unpacking boxes filled with Santa statues and seasonal trinkets. This simple yet charming scene captured the essence of the holiday spirit and the excitement that comes with starting a new tradition. The couple, Richard Gere, 75, and Alejandra Silva, are parents to sons Alexander, 5, and James, 4. In addition, Gere has a son named Homer, 24, from his previous relationship with Carey Lowell, and Silva has a son named Albert, 11. Their diverse family is coming together to create memories that will last a lifetime during this special Christmas season.Silva's heartfelt caption, translated from Spanish to English, reads, "As James says, mom, mom, today is the first day of Christmas! How I like their energy, their innocence. This year finally, Christmas in Spain! #merrychristmas #feliznavidad." It showcases the family's joy and anticipation as they embrace their new home and the holiday season.

The Reason Behind the Move

In April, Gere revealed to Vanity Fair Spain his plan to move to Silva's home country of Spain. He explained, "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers." This decision was driven by the desire to provide Silva with a sense of belonging and to allow her to be closer to her loved ones. After expressing his desire to relocate to the European country earlier this year, Gere made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in late November. During the interview, he discussed their move to Madrid and revealed that they will be celebrating Thanksgiving in the new country. Gere emphasized the importance of their children being bilingual and how they will thrive in Spain. He said, "Our kids are bilingual so they’re going to flourish there." Host Jimmy Fallon, who also joked about Gere being bilingual and able to "speak 15 languages perfectly," asked if Gere will be spending Thanksgiving in Madrid. Gere replied, "There in Spain, yeah." He further shared that Silva grew up in a big Spanish family, similar to a big Italian family, and her grandmother was the glue that held the family together. Since the grandmother passed away about two years ago, Silva is now taking on the role of the new grandmother of the extended family and is already planning for 35 people for Sunday lunches.

The Sale of the Connecticut Home

The couple's move comes after Gere sold his Connecticut home for $11 million in October. Gere and Silva had lived in the six-bedroom, 11-bathroom property for two years after purchasing it in 2022 for $10.8 million, according to local media outlet the New Canaan Advertiser. This sale marks the end of an era in Connecticut and the beginning of a new chapter in Spain for the Gere family. As they settle into their new home and prepare for Christmas, the Gere family is looking forward to creating countless memories together. Their story serves as a reminder of the importance of family and the joy that comes with starting new traditions in a new place.
