Next October marks a significant milestone as Saturday Night Live celebrates its 50th anniversary. Months ago, the celebration began with the premiere of season 50 and the release of Saturday Night in September. This celebration will continue into the new year with the four-part docuseries SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night and the newly-announced feature-length documentary Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music. Unveiling the Musical Legacy of 50 Years of SNL
Questlove's Directorial Masterpiece
Questlove, the renowned musician and filmmaker, will direct the three-hour-long feature documentary. Scheduled to premiere on Jan. 27, it marks his first feature-length release since the Grammy and Academy Award-winning Summer of Soul in 2021. Through archival footage and interviews with past musical guests, cast members, writers, producers, and more, Questlove will shape a comprehensive story of the SNL musical legacy. "Everyone knows the most famous SNL appearances, whether it’s Elvis Costello, Prince or the Beastie Boys, but they’re the tip of a huge iceberg," Questlove shared. "The process of going back through the incredible archival footage was like being in a time machine, DeLorean or other. I’m so happy I went on the trip and now get to share it with everyone."
