Tragic Incident at Glasmann Pond Claims Life of Utah Teen
2025-01-30

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Utah when two adolescents fell through the ice at Glasmann Pond, resulting in the tragic death of one teenager while the other is recovering. On a chilly Monday afternoon, January 27th, emergency services were alerted around 4:30 p.m. by witnesses who saw the boys struggling in the icy waters. Despite immediate rescue efforts, only one boy was successfully pulled to safety using fishing equipment, while the other remained submerged until 6:50 p.m. The rescued teen received treatment for mild hypothermia, but tragically, his companion did not survive the ordeal.

The community of Ogden was left in mourning following this devastating event. Local authorities dispatched an emergency dive team upon receiving the distress call. Two fellow teens who were nearby managed to assist in rescuing one of the victims using their fishing gear. Unfortunately, the second boy was not retrieved from the water until nearly two hours later. He was rushed to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where doctors fought to save his life, but ultimately could not prevail.

The deceased youth has been identified as Samuel Creel, a 14-year-old student at South Ogden Junior High School. Samuel, who had autism, was remembered fondly by family and friends for his gentle nature and passion for technology. His aunt expressed deep sorrow on a fundraising page set up to support the family during this difficult time. She shared that her sister, Samuel's mother, is devastated by the loss. Samuel's parents recounted how he had ventured out to meet a friend, unaware that it would lead him to the pond. His stepfather lamented the decision not to follow him, while his mother grieved over missing her son deeply.

The tragedy has left a profound impact on the community. Family members are rallying together to provide support and comfort to each other. Samuel's love for video games, computers, and outdoor activities will be cherished by those who knew him. As the community mourns, they also reflect on the importance of vigilance and safety measures near bodies of water, especially during colder months.
