Trisha Paytas, a 36-year-old internet personality, was not initially planning to be on Saturday Night Live over the weekend. However, Bowen Yang's unexpected outreach led to her guest-starring on the December 7 episode. The opportunity came just 48 hours before she was live on TV. On Thursday, Yang said he had written a sketch for her and asked if she wanted to come on the show. Paytas was shocked but agreed. She flew from San Diego to New York City that night and was in rehearsals the next day.Yang's Love for Paytas' Online Content
Yang, 34, had previously spoken about his love for Paytas' online content on his Las Culturistas podcast. This made Paytas especially flattered when he thought of her for a sketch. She now considers Yang her favorite person in the world.
Sketch Details
The sketch featured Paytas as herself on the fictional Awakenings podcast, which was Myron's (played by Paul Mescal) most-streamed podcast of the year on Spotify. Alongside Yang as the podcast's host Satoshi Gutman, Paytas surprised Myron and his friends (played by Andrew Dismukes, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman) while they were hanging out at home.
At the end of the episode, Paytas was personally thanked by Mescal, 28, along with musical performer Shaboozey and additional special guests Dana Carvey and David Spade. This was a surreal moment for her. She recalls wanting to hide and being asked to stand in the front by Yang. She couldn't believe it felt so real and was amazed when Mescal thanked her. Paytas was especially excited to meet Spade, 60, as she has been a longtime fan. Spade was very nice and she felt like they were meeting as equals rather than a fan.
Later that night, Paytas attended the post-show celebration and had a few rare glasses of champagne. She got to chat with "so many cool people" like SNL star Kenan Thompson and comedian Ziwe. Although her husband Moses Hacmon and their daughters couldn't join her as their little one was sick, Moses sent her a video of them watching SNL. Paytas was happy that her daughter recognized her on the screen.
