Which Reality TV Star Recreated 1922's Nosferatu's Count Orlok at Premiere?
2024-12-13
Halloween may have bid farewell, yet Hollywood donned a frightful guise for the much-anticipated premiere of Nosferatu. This Robert Eggers-created and directed horror film serves as a remake of the silent classic Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. The 1922 film, inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula and remade in 1979, bestowed upon cinema one of its iconic horror figures - the bald, pointy-eared, and fanged Count Orlok.
Re-creating the Horror Icon
A reality TV star with exceptional makeup skills recreated the look for the 2024 premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on December 12th. Underneath the prosthetics and makeup was none other than the popular RuPaul's Drag Race alum Katya Zamolodchikova, who is commonly known as Katya. Katya was a beloved fan on Season 7 of the drag competition series and went on to star in All-Stars 2, finishing as a runner-up. After Drag Race, she collaborated with fellow season 7 alum Trixie Mattel in the web series UNHhhh, The Trixie & Katya Show, and Netflix's I Like to Watch. At the Nosferatu premiere, Katya arrived with a striking look. She donned prosthetic ears and fangs, pale makeup with dark sunken eyes, and long, claw-like nails. Accompanying her was doll artist and costumer Astor Yang, who seemed to be dressed as Orlok's victim Ellen Hutter. In the remake, Count Orlok is portrayed by Bill Skarsgård and Ellen Hutter by Lily-Rose Depp. The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe.Katya (right) is renowned for her collaborations with fellow 'Drag Race' season 7 alum Trixie Mattel (left). The Cast's Theme
Even the actors embraced the night's theme. Depp wore an angelic silver gown, while the rest of the cast donned all black or dark brown. Inside the theater, built in 1927 and exuding a gothic ambiance, Katya and Yang shared Instagram Stories with a black-and-white filter, continuing the 1922 theme.Drag Race was well-represented at the premiere, with season 13's Gottmik, season 14's June Jambalaya, and Pit Crew member Bruno Alcantara in attendance. Their photos added to the glamorous atmosphere.Previous Drag Race Red Carpet Moments
This isn't the first time a Drag Race competitor made a spooky sight on the red carpet. At the 2023 Primetime Emmys, Season 15 competitor Princess Poppy turned heads as a green goblin.Nosferatu opens in theaters on Christmas Day, promising to bring the horror to audiences during the holiday season.
