Christmas Music: A Tale of Hope and Love
Christmas music is truly a wonder. Take Handel's "Messiah" for instance. With its moving hallelujah chorus, it's a timeless masterpiece that never grows old. Even after nearly 300 years, each listen feels fresh and new. The choir and orchestra bring it to life in a way that is simply magical.Another beloved carol is "Silent Night." While it may be simpler than "Messiah," its beauty is undeniable. Alongside classics like "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem," "What Child is This," and "O Holy Night," these songs create a symphony of Christmas spirit.A Recent Gem: "Mary Did You Know?"
"Mary Did You Know?" is one of the more recent additions to the Christmas music repertoire. It makes us ponder the significance of that special moment when Jesus was born. Steven Curtis Chapman's "The Music of Christmas" also stands out. The chorus beautifully captures the essence of Christmas with the line "Love is here, it’s the music of Christmas. So, listen, listen with your heart-And you will hear a song in the laughter of a child-Oh won’t you listen for the sound of hope-And you will hear the music of Christmas-For the music of Christmas is love-Oh, it’s love."My Ministry During Christmas
Throughout the year, I have the privilege of sharing my love for music through singing for churches and various groups. During the Christmas season, it becomes even more special. In recent years, I've had the opportunity to perform in the main lobby of East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Last year, little did I know that just a week after singing there, I would be back for heart surgery. But thanks to the care of my doctors and the grace of God, I'm here and still singing. This year, I'll be back in the lobby on Friday, Dec. 20, at noon. It will be the one-year anniversary of my surgery, and I'm looking forward to sharing the music of Christmas with you. If you're in the Opelika area, please come and join me. Let's sing along to our favorite Christmas songs and celebrate the joy of the season together.I am truly blessed to be able to do this and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!Bill King is a native of Rainsville, where he and his wife graduated from Plainview High School.
