In a post shared on Reddit, an anonymous individual detailed their experience. They were away for Thanksgiving and chose to have their partner watch over their home and pet instead of hiring a cat sitter. The reason was simple - the partner needed the money. As they left, they ensured the house was "pretty clean" to make things easier for their partner.
However, upon their return, a different scene greeted them. Clothes were thrown everywhere, cables from the work desk were unplugged and moved, furniture had been shifted, the bed was unmade, and the bathroom looked in a rather unpleasant state. But the most distressing part was that the cat litter had not been scooped at all.
Initially, the poster tried to remain composed and not make a scene, especially since their roommate was at home. But the sight of the mess became too much to handle. They couldn't hold back their emotions and yelled at their partner, expressing how disrespectful they felt.
This outburst led to their partner crying, and now the poster is questioning if they went too far. It's a dilemma that many in similar situations might face - how to handle such a situation without causing unnecessary harm to the relationship.
By and large, the commenters on Reddit didn't think the poster had gone too far. One person wrote, "I wouldn't expect deep cleaning, but any adult should know to at least clean up after herself. It's time for the OP to reevaluate whether this relationship is still a good fit for them and the future they want."
Another added, "This is exactly how much your partner respects you … think of how much longer you'll put up with this level of disrespect. It's not just leaving a clean house a mess; an innocent animal relied on your partner to provide its basic needs."
