WindSync Quintet Enchants Grass Valley with Nature-Inspired Melodies
2025-02-26

The vibrant ensemble WindSync is set to mesmerize the audience in Grass Valley on Sunday, March 16, at 2 PM. This dynamic wind quintet, known for its exceptional artistry and youthful energy, will present a concert titled "Taxonomies," which explores the beauty and complexity of nature through music. The program features an array of compositions that draw inspiration from natural rhythms and phenomena, including bird calls and plant life cycles. WindSync's ability to connect with audiences through storytelling and humor promises an engaging and accessible experience for all.

Founded on the principle of bridging music and nature, WindSync's "Taxonomies" aims to highlight the interconnectedness of the natural world. One of the standout pieces is Dieterich Buxtehude’s "Passacaglia in D minor," whose haunting melodies are believed to be influenced by natural rhythms. Another highlight is Viet Cuong’s "Flora," inspired by the lifecycle of plants. Additionally, Väsen’s "Botanist Suite" celebrates the natural world in a harmonious and artistic manner. Mozart’s Serenade No. 12 for Winds in C minor, often referred to as "Night Music," adds a structured yet emotive dimension to the program. Leonard Bernstein’s "Make Our Garden Grow" from "Candide" culminates the concert with a message of hope and unity through diverse musical themes.

The quintet has garnered acclaim for its performances worldwide, having appeared at prestigious venues such as Ravinia, the Met Museum, and Carnegie Hall. Their international touring career began after winning several competitions, including the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Artistic Director Ken Hardin praised their unique ability to engage both young and adult audiences, noting their incredible musicianship. On Monday, March 17, WindSync will also perform for over 600 third-grade students from local schools, part of InConcert Sierra’s youth programs.
