The Gotham Film & Media Institute has unveiled the nominees for the 2025 Gotham Television Awards, encompassing twelve competitive categories. This prestigious event acknowledges a variety of series such as "Adolescence," "The Pitt," and "The Studio," along with stellar performances by Kathy Bates, Sterling K. Brown, Ted Danson, Linda Lavin, Cristin Milioti, and Michelle Williams, among others. The awards aim to honor groundbreaking work in comedy, drama, limited, and nonfiction series, as well as outstanding lead and supporting performances across various categories. Additionally, it will introduce a new category recognizing original films broadcast or streamed for the first time during the eligibility period.
As part of its commitment to celebrating television's creative community, the Gotham Television Awards have expanded their scope this year. Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham, highlighted the significance of the ceremony, stating that it serves as a platform to recognize creators and artists shaping today's television landscape. Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 edition, which honored shows like "Baby Reindeer" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," the 2025 event will pay tribute to industry luminaries Amy Sherman Palladino, Daniel Palladino, and Hwang Dong-hyuk, alongside other soon-to-be-announced honorees.
This year's nominees were chosen by committees comprising film and television critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators. Final recipients will be determined by juries composed of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and others directly involved in television production. The ceremony is set to take place live at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 7PM.
Among the nominated series for Breakthrough Comedy Series are "Happy Family USA," "English Teacher," "Fantasmas," "Overcompensating," and "The Studio." In the Breakthrough Drama Series category, contenders include "Black Doves," "Forever," "Matlock," "One Hundred Years of Solitude," and "The Pitt." For Breakthrough Limited Series, nominations went to "Adolescence," "Dying for Sex," "Get Millie Back," "Penelope," and "Say Nothing." Nonfiction series recognized include "Conbody Vs Everybody," "Hollywood Black," "Omnivore," "Ren Faire," and "Social Studies."
Outstanding performances in comedy, drama, and limited series also garnered attention. Notable mentions include Ted Danson, Anna Lambe, Saagar Shaikh, Benito Skinner, and Julio Torres for comedy; Kathy Bates, Sterling K. Brown, Aldis Hodge, Lovie Simone, and Noah Wyle for drama; and Stephen Graham, Brian Tyree Henry, Cristin Milioti, Megan Stott, and Michelle Williams for limited series. Supporting roles saw nominations from Poorna Jagannathan, Linda Lavin, Sean Patton, Timothy Simons, Chase Sui Wonders, Katherine LaNasa, James Marsden, Skye P. Marshall, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Williams, Owen Cooper, Erin Doherty, Taraji P. Henson, Diego Luna, and Jenny Slate.
In addition to television series, the Outstanding Original Film category features nominations for "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy," "Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music," "Pee-wee as Himself," "Rebel Ridge," and "Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)." Performances in these original films received recognition as well, with nods going to Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Dylan O’Brien, Aaron Pierre, Phoebe-Rae Taylor, and Renée Zellweger.
