John Mulaney, a renowned comedian at the age of 42, recently opened up about his life as a dad and his new Broadway show. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the opening of "ALL IN: Comedy About Love" on Monday, Dec. 16, he shared how he balances rehearsals with being a father to his two children, Malcolm, 3, and Méi, 3 months.

Rehearsals and Family Life

Mulaney revealed that his son Malcolm has been attending a lot of rehearsals. He has heard The Bengsons and the amazing band warm up frequently, and he truly enjoys it. Malcolm even brought a ukulele yesterday and played along with the band. The proud dad continued, "He's been here a lot. He loves the theater. He was standing on stage for a while and then said, 'I love stage.'" This shows the strong connection between Malcolm and the world of theater.Malcolm has settled well into his big brother duties since the arrival of his sister Méi June on Sept. 14. In November, speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the GQ Man of the Year party, Mulaney said, "He's doing good. He likes it. It's interesting. With our daughter, she's two months old so she doesn't do much. And I think the first couple of weeks he thought she might be a toy because she'd squeak and he'd be like, 'How do I make it do that again?' Now I think he gets it, that this is a little girl, yeah."

Holiday Traditions

When it comes to holiday traditions, Mulaney added, "Let's see. Well, our son's birthday is right around Thanksgiving, so we always do kind of a combined with the family in town 'Malcolm birthday Thanksgiving,' so we'll do that again." This shows the importance of family and tradition in their lives.Mulaney and his wife Olivia Munn, 44, revealed the arrival of their daughter Méi on Instagram on Sept. 22. The baby was born via gestational surrogate following Munn's breast cancer diagnosis in 2023.
