New Mom Hurt as Husband Took Call During Birth at Hospital
2024-12-03
During a challenging labor experience, a woman's husband's actions sparked a viral conversation. As she detailed in a Reddit post, her water broke while her husband was at work. She drove herself to the hospital and they met there. Her labor lasted a long 17 hours with complications.
Panic Attacks and Husband's Reaction
After getting the epidural, she began to have panic attacks as she couldn't feel her legs. It was 2 am, so she woke her husband and asked him to touch her feet. He did for a minute, calming her down, but then went back to sleep. About an hour later, she got nervous again and asked the same thing, but he got upset and told her to go to sleep and promptly fell asleep again.Contractions and the Dilemma
Roughly an hour later, the contractions became stronger. She tried to adjust herself but her leg fell off the bed. Afraid to wake her already angry husband or bother the nurses, her leg dangled for about 40 minutes until the nurse came for her high heart rate. At 8 am, doctors said she was ready to deliver. Her husband was still asleep and wasn't happy when she woke him up, but he eventually became supportive.During Contractions and the Phone Call
Due to the epidural, she couldn't move her legs. While having contractions, her husband "held up one leg for her and a nurse held the other." However, just when she wasn't having a contraction, her husband's phone rang. Instead of declining the call, he dropped her leg, walked to the corner to answer it. Every nurse and doctor in the room looked at him in disapproval. He said "Hey what's up man I'm a little busy right now" and talked for a few minutes, which felt like forever to her. During another contraction, a second nurse rushed over to pick up the leg her husband dropped. After the contraction ended, he said "Oh I'm sorry I'll take back over" to the nurse. A few minutes later, they had their baby boy. After the Birth and the Aftermath
Hours after the birth, the woman expressed her hurt to her husband, who responded by calling her an "emotional girl." She felt abandoned and like she was being put last. In the recovery room, the nurse commented on how thoughtless her husband was during the birth. Later, when discussing the birth with their families, the issue of the phone came up again. Her husband laughed and said "Hey, you got to answer when it rings." She replied "Not in the middle of your son being born," and he looked at her strangely and changed the conversation. They have fought about it a couple of times, and when she asked for an apology, he said "I'm sorry, are you happy now?" Now, they are discussing having another child, but she is terrified of how she will be treated in the delivery room.Commenters on Reddit have overwhelmingly supported the woman. One wrote, "Honestly, this behavior would make me question every life decision." Another added, "If he's willing to put you down in a situation like that, I'm terrified about how things are going right now, much less the next time you're in the delivery room."
