Katie Silcott, a vocal music teacher at Shanahan Middle School in the Olentangy Local School District, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming a GRAMMY finalist for the second time. This recognition comes after her first appearance in the final round of the awards in 2022. Her dedication and passion for teaching have truly shone through.

Honor and Teaching Journey

Silcott expressed her deep gratitude when she was informed of her second GRAMMY finalist nomination. "It is the greatest honor to teach my students for multiple years in a row during their time in middle school," she said. She vividly recalled the day she found out about the finals the first time around. She was in the midst of a recruitment tour for 5th graders at the neighboring elementary schools. Now, those same 5th graders have grown into her 8th graders.During the announcement of the 2025 finalists, Silcott was in class with her students. "There were lots of cheers and tears!" she recounted. These students hold a special place in her heart as they have helped her understand the essence of teaching middle school - challenging them as musicians, handling diverse personalities with calmness, and helping them discover their values as human beings. This, she believes, is the ultimate joy of teaching.The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air on Feb. 2, 2025, on 10TV, and Silcott's story continues to inspire.

First GRAMMY Finalist Experience
