“RHOC” Star Braunwyn Marries Girlfriend in Last-Minute TN Home Wedding
2024-12-05
The Real Housewives of Orange County star Braunwyn Windham-Burke made headlines with a remarkable wedding. On Dec. 4 at their Nashville home, she married girlfriend Jennifer Spinner. A notary legalized the union, attended by five of her seven children. This was a decision driven by the uncertainty and political climate surrounding LGBTQ+ rights in Tennessee.

Love in the Face of Uncertainty

Originally planning to marry in October 2026, the couple moved up the date due to concerns. Worried about potential changes to gay marriage laws under Donald Trump's presidency, they wanted to be legally protected. Spinner, an advisory board member of Franklin Pride TN, emphasized the need for these rights. Windham-Burke added that it was about standing in their power and showing their commitment. They began dating in July 2022 and had two proposals. Their first anniversary was celebrated with a proposal in New York City, and again in October 2023. On New Year's Eve, they committed to a future together with a ring exchange in North Carolina, and on Valentine's Day at Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Now, their marriage is legally official. The wedding ceremony was a last-minute decision. Windham-Burke's dress was a last-minute choice from Amazon and a jacket from Bloomingdale's. Spinner found a phenomenal rhinestone tuxedo at Sacca's in New York, despite initially being hesitant due to growing up in a non-queer-friendly place.Originally planning to get married at the local courthouse, they faced challenges as judges there no longer performed gay marriages. Instead, they opted for a public official to come to their house.

Marriage for the Kids

To the couple, their marriage is about providing structure and safety for their children. Every child seeks that from their adult caregivers. Spinner explained that this marriage shows their children that she is a parent and will be there for the long haul. Windham-Burke emphasized that marriage solidifies having her favorite person by her side for life. It's not just a fairy tale but a commitment. After the wedding, the newlyweds enjoyed babka from Long Island and went out to dinner with friends before taking the kids to Hebrew school. They have future weddings planned in Guatemala, California, and New York. The Guatemala wedding is described as "Indiana Jones meets Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," while the California and New York weddings are mostly for their grandmothers who are too old to travel.Windham-Burke and Spinner are excited to start a new chapter of their lives together as wives. They are closing on a new home on Dec. 19, marking a new beginning.
