Back to Her Roots

As mentioned by Jimmy Fallon, the Playbill reads, "Shailene Woodley is thrilled to be making her Broadway debut. You may recognize her from the 1995 Palmdale Community Theater production of Oliver Twist where she played one of Fagan’s boys." This reference sparked a humorous exchange between the host and the actress. Woodley explained that it was a "nod" to her father, as it reminded her of her first play experience.

However, her time in the Palmdale Community Theater production wasn't all rosy. She humorously shared that she got head lice from wearing the shared caps, which might have deterred her from pursuing more stage work in the past. But now, she's back on the Broadway stage with a new play.

The Play She's Currently In

After taking a trip down memory lane, Woodley described the play she's currently starring in. Written by Emmy nominee Leslye Headland, it follows four adult siblings returning to their childhood home for the holidays. The show explores the complexities of becoming adults with our own lives and identities, and how childhood conditioning affects us.

Directed by Trip Cullman, Cult of Love began previews on Nov. 20 and will officially open on Dec. 12. The synopsis teases the holiday season for the Dahl family, with old conflicts resurfacing and new issues emerging. Tickets for the play are now on sale.

The Cast and Their Roles

The play also stars Molly Bernard, Roberta Colindrez, Barbie Ferreira, Rebecca Henderson, Christopher Lowell, Zachary Quinto, Christopher Sears, Mare Winningham, and David Rasche. Each actor brings their unique talent to the stage, adding depth and dimension to the story.

As the play unfolds, audiences will witness the Dahl family's struggles and joys during the holiday season. It's a story that touches on universal themes of family, love, and growth.
