A Tennessee family is seeking answers following a distressing incident involving a FedEx driver. On November 30th, the driver was captured on camera hitting their beloved dog Bear, who had been adopted by Jessica Burleson 14 years ago. Local station WJHL reported the details.
Family's Request and Driver's Lack of Action
Burleson expressed her family's desire for an apology from the driver. "They simply want to know why he didn't try to swerve around Bear or stop instead of just continuing on. In the videos, it's clear that he didn't make any effort to halt. He just kept going down the driveway without showing any remorse," she said. After the incident, the family spent hours searching for Bear before finally finding him under her home. "I looked there a couple of times, and my dad passed him by a few times too. He wasn't making any noise. And that's where he was, hidden under the underpin. My dad had to remove it to get him out, and he was terrified," Burleson recalled.Dog's Health After the Accident
Despite not having any broken bones, Bear received a heartbreaking diagnosis. Burleson told the outlet, "There was a tumor inside his belly that ruptured when he got hit. There's nothing more that can be done. They could either bring him home or put him down. My mom and dad decided to bring him home and gave him some pain pills. They said he probably wouldn't last more than a couple of days."Company's Response and Family's Hope
Burleson mentioned that she hasn't been informed about the driver's fate but was advised that FedEx was "willing to pay the vet bills" by WJHL. In a statement to the outlet, FedEx expressed their deepest sympathies. "We take this matter seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances. Based on the investigation outcome, we will take appropriate action," they concluded. FedEx did not respond immediately when contacted by PEOPLE.
