Trisha Paytas Surprises on SNL After Podcast Arm Bet
2024-12-08
Trisha Paytas, a 36-year-old social media influencer, made a surprising appearance on Saturday Night Live on December 7. She joined host Paul Mescal and a few cast members like Bowen Yang in a skit about Spotify Wrapped. In the skit, Paytas played herself on a podcast called Awakenings, which Mescal's character Myron had featured as his most-listened-to podcast on his Spotify Wrapped. She and the host Satoshi Gutman (played by Yang) then surprised Myron and his friends during an at-home gathering. Her cameo lasted less than a minute but later appeared during the show's closing moment.

Previous Desires and Bet

After the fact, it was pointed out that Paytas had previously expressed her desire to be on the show more than three years ago. At that time, her former Frenemies podcast cohost Ethan Klein had claimed he would remove a limb if she ever made it on the show. During an April 2021 episode of the now-defunct podcast, which was resurfaced by multiple TikTok users after Paytas' SNL appearance, Klein said he would "rather die" than be on the show while Paytas said she would "be on it." He even reiterated his "threat" by saying, "If you go on SNL, I'll cut my f—— arm off."

Other SNL References

Paytas also previously mentioned the NBC show in a 2020 TikTok. In the video, she could be seen pretending to host SNL while its intro song played in the background. Her caption read, "Me hosting SNL this weekend because the internet really be showing me so much love right now."

Recent Appearances

Paytas' SNL stint comes just a month after she appeared at the Los Angeles premiere of Wicked and three months after she and her daughter Malibu Barbie wore matching Glinda outfits. Back in August, in an Instagram post, the influencer and her 2-year-old daughter could be seen trying on their own pink, sparkly gowns inspired by Ariana Grande's character in the blockbuster. Paytas showed the dress to Malibu and asked if she "wanted to try it on," creating a sweet mother-daughter dress-up moment. Paytas also announced the birth of her second daughter, Elvis, earlier this year. She shares her two kids with husband Moses Hacmon.
