Vestavia Hills Educator Honored as Alabama's Top Music Teacher for 2025

In a remarkable recognition of her dedication and excellence in music education, Melissa McIntyre has been awarded the title of Outstanding Music Educator for 2025 by the Alabama Music Educators Association. Last year, she was also named Vestavia Hills' Elementary Teacher of the Year. With an impressive educational background from the University of Montevallo, where she obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education, McIntyre has spent over two decades nurturing young musicians. Currently in her eighth year at Liberty Park Elementary, she engages with approximately 600 students through various musical programs.

From McAdory to Liberty Park: A Journey of Musical Inspiration

For more than two decades, Melissa McIntyre has dedicated herself to shaping the musical talents of young children. Her journey began at McAdory Elementary School in 1996, where she spent 21 years fostering a love for music among her students. In 2017, she transitioned to Liberty Park Elementary, bringing her wealth of experience and passion for teaching. Here, she not only leads regular music classes but also directs specialized groups like the Ring-Dingers, a first-grade handbell ensemble, and the Liberty Park Singers and Orff Ensemble for older students. Additionally, McIntyre has played a pivotal role in organizing the annual Alabama Music Educators Association Elementary Music Festival each fall, further highlighting her commitment to enriching the lives of young musicians.

Her dedication to cultivating musical talent and fostering creativity in children serves as an inspiration to educators and communities alike.
