Timothée Chalamet Offered to Cover $500 Fine for Lookalike Contest Host
2024-12-02
Timothée Chalamet's actions at a lookalike contest in New York City became a viral sensation. Halfway through the massive gathering on Oct. 27, the NYPD disrupted the event, and the organizer, Anthony Po, faced a $500 fine for hosting without a permit. Despite the setback, Po views it as a small price compared to the overall production cost of $4,000.

Chalamet's Team's Response

Po's post about his ticket went viral, and he received a generous offer from Chalamet's team. "They offered to pay the ticket, which is truly funny," Po reveals. However, he declined the offer, and the digital invite app Partiful covered the fine instead. Chalamet's people also relayed his praise, saying, "We thought it was awesome. Thanks so much." Although Po didn't meet Chalamet at the event, the actor ranked around 13th among the lookalikes. Po attributes this to Chalamet's mustache, which deviated from his usual clean-shaven look.

Contestant's Perspective

Zander Dueve, the actual runner-up, saw Chalamet through the Washington Square Arch. "I saw the very top of his head through the Washington Square Arch. I just saw his hat and his eyebrows, because you can't miss those," he says. Dueve agrees with Po's assessment that Chalamet looked the least like himself among the contestants.

Other Celebrity Lookalike Contests

Chalamet isn't the only A-lister to engage with lookalike contests. Paul Mescal FaceTimed his no. 1 twin, Jack Wall O'Reilly, to congratulate him after a Dublin contest. In Austin, Texas on Nov. 24, Glen Powell didn't attend his lookalike competition but sent his mom, Cyndy Powell, as a judge. She crowned Maxwell Braunstein as the winner and Glen made a cameo to offer an exciting prize. "You may know that my parents make a cameo in every movie I make, but today the winner of the Glen Powell lookalike contest wins their parents, or any family member of their choice, a cameo in my next movie," said the Twisters star.
