The acting categories remain gender-neutral, continuing a tradition from the Gotham Film Awards. Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham, emphasized the importance of celebrating creators and artists impacting today's television landscape.

Besides recognizing outstanding performances and breakthrough series, the awards introduce a new category honoring original films broadcast or streamed for the first time during the eligibility period. Small juries composed of journalists and influencers selected this year’s nominees, reflecting diverse voices and exceptional craftsmanship across comedy, drama, limited, and nonfiction series.

New Categories and Industry Recognition

In addition to traditional categories, the Gotham Television Awards introduce an Outstanding Original Film category, expanding the scope of recognition to include broadcast and streaming films. This innovation ensures that groundbreaking work across all platforms receives due acknowledgment. This new category celebrates original features aired or transmitted for the first time within the eligibility period, whether on traditional television networks or digital platforms. Notable nominees include Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music, and Rebel Ridge. Furthermore, the awards recognize outstanding performances in these original films, featuring talents like Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Dylan O’Brien, Aaron Pierre, Phoebe-Rae Taylor, and Renée Zellweger. These additions reflect a broader commitment to celebrate creativity and excellence across all forms of visual storytelling, reinforcing the Gotham Television Awards' role as a pioneer in recognizing industry achievements.
